No homeless youth in district – do I still send a report?
Important
Connecting with your community agencies is another great way to ensure eligible students are identified and served appropriately. Connect with shelters and your local housing agency and attend your local community meeting–Continuum of Care or other group to make sure you are connecting with potential leads and referrals. There is a Community Partners course at McKinney-Vento.org that you can share with your community partners as well that helps them understand how best to work with schools.
Hi Alaina,
I am not sure about the answer to question. But I did want to say that it might be good to review the identifying information with staff and post flyers in the schools. It’s possible that there are students that are unidentified in your district specifically when it comes to doubled-up.
Thanks,
Annie
I agree with Annie. It may be time for a review with your staff. Also, make sure your posters are posted in schools and throughout the community. Do you have any local shelters in your areas? Have you connected with community agencies that assist with homeless families? Make sure all of them have a poster and your contact information.
