Drivers Training Costs?
I have a family asking if they could get help for Driver’s Training costs for their student. They gave a reason as it is helping with taking away the transportation barrier. This student is now living in Bath and is able to use the school bus. They would like written clarification of the reason for denial, including any applicable policy or guidance. From my understanding this is not a service that M-V covers or am I wrong? How should I handle this?

@courtneyvietzke, I agree with Kelly, based on the information provided you are already removing the barrier by using the school bus but would like to add that driver’s education might be an allowable expense depending on the specific circumstances. For instance, if the student is 18, they may be able to obtain their license more quickly than a younger student. Similarly, if it is early in the school year, enabling the student to drive themselves could support more consistent attendance and stability. Ultimately, the district should consider what option best supports the student’s educational access and success. Providing these details to your regional grant coordinator will help determine whether this would be an allowable use of funds.
