We will not be doing this in time for Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week but we are planning a screening of American Street Kid, a documentary about youth who are homeless and living on the streets. We are trying to be very thoughtful about the shocking content they will see and be able to share resources for people to refer kids to.

I so agree with you. We know that children may struggle to access the higher levels of Maslow’s until their more basic needs are met. The five tenets of ASCD’s Whole Child model, healthy, safe, engaged, supported and challenged, reflect this as well.
