    • Hi my name is Rochelle Casner. I was hired this year as the Homeless Liaison for the USD346 School District. Currently I am also working on my Master’s in social work and will become their social worker once I have graduated. One of my favorite things about Kansas is the different seasons we get to enjoy. I have learned to love winters because I love sitting by the fire place on a cold wintery day enjoying a cup of coffee, in the spring I love to watch all of the awakening of the flowers and trees and listen to the birds and watch all of our new calves being born, in the Summer I love to camp with my family and enjoy being in the water, and in the fall I love watching the trees change their color, and harvesting our honey from our bees in our backyard.

        Hi, Rochelle @rochelle22,

It’s so nice to meet you! Welcome to your new role as a liaison and to the group. That’s exciting that you’re working on your MSW and will be moving into the social worker position as well.

Your description of the seasons in Kansas was lovely to read. I especially relate to enjoying the flowers, trees, and birds in the spring. It’s such a refreshing time of year. Since you mentioned enjoying the birds, you might like the book Turning to Birds by Lili Taylor. I really enjoyed it. It’s a thoughtful, calming read about noticing birds in everyday life.

We’re here to help and answer questions, and the portal is a great place to connect with others in similar roles to share ideas and support. Speaking of which, there’s a Liaison Portal Party happening this afternoon on the McKinney-Vento.org portal. It’s a fun way to meet others and get more familiar with the portal. Here is the registration link:
