Student Evicted by parent

I have a student who is 18 and in their senior year of high school. Mom served her with an eviction notice today. Will this student be considered an unaccompanied youth? I know they are 18, but still in school. I need direction on how to process this.

      Hello Deandra, I agree with Monica to assist the student with finding a safe place to stay. As long as they are in school, regardless of their age, if the student’s nighttime residence is not fixed, regular and adequate you would provide them the rights and services provided under McKinney-Vento. If the student is attending college they may need a verification letter of unaccompanied status to complete the FAFSA without a parent. You can provide that for them as the liaison. You can find a sample letter in the Resource Library. Thank you for all that you do.

      yes, unaccompanied homeless youth. Review with the student family or friends they could stay with safely for the school year.
