Please help!

I have a disabled younger sibling of a student that either will be coming to our school or state school in August 2026. My student is qualified under McKinney-Vento. Her disabled little brother is needing glasses, and mom is unsure if Medicaid will pay for the entire script. My question is do I have to wait until he is an active student to assist him with funding or is there somewhere that says I can help him now? He is 4. Thank you for all of your help!

These are great suggestions! One more idea may be to reach out to faith based organizations and see if they have any available funding to help.

    • A few other resources to check… United Way often can link you to local charity providers for glasses and eye exams. If there is a “Sight Savers” near you they will provide free and/or low-cost vision screening and glasses.

    • Many Lions Clubs or organizations are good about providing free glasses to children in these exact situations and I give out referrals to anyone who calls even if they are not McKinney Vento. Under 34 CFR ยง 300.101, every state that accepts federal education funding (which is all of them) must ensure that a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) is available to all children with disabilities aged 3 through 21. So my question is if the child is 4 and disabled, is he enrolled in the school district already, has he been identified as needing an IEP? Or is he enrolled in another district currently?
