Great question @aanderson! I would also add to make sure the student is captured in data that your district reports, whether that be to inform pupil accounting or whatever appropriate department handles your student information system.
We’re so glad you’re here to ask these questions. All the grace is given!
I would have a conversation with the caregivers and/or students (depending on age) about McKinney-Vento. Let them know how you can help. Are there any barriers the student(s) are experiencing that are inhibiting school? After learning about the barriers, how can your school and community help?
Important resources – Getting the students linked up with free breakfast/lunch, a transportation plan to make sure they are getting to/from school, counseling services, referrals to housing agencies, getting them supplied with basic need items.
Please feel free to ask more questions either here or you can message me.
Thanks!
