My story
My story
As I was growing up in our extremely run-down home, we lived in front of the County Clinic. We encountered a lot of homeless families. I don’t know why but we had a vast majority of those parents cross the street to our front door and ask for some leftover food to feed their children. My mother always welcomed those families and at times they even stayed a couple of nights until they figured out where to head next.
What we will never forget is the mother with her new born child who had stayed at am aluminum storage container. We experienced how she made it through the several days that she had been there. She had a rag for her bed with child. No kitchen only a foam cup with water. It was summer time so she had no door with no other ventilation. My mother took her to our home and gave her a temporary housecleaning job at our home. The lady cried every time she got milk for her new born child. Little Luisito is now a 30 years old and is an attorney living in Houston. He is very well off but unfortunately, his mother was not able to see him past his high school years.
We were brought up caring for those that could not care for themselves. For that I thank my wonderful mother for always having such a huge heart.
