A few of the things we did last year were to ensure that all our families were aware of the food resources available in the community, such as local church drive-throughs, food markets, and food banks. I would provide maps, hours, and phone numbers, along with descriptions of the services available.
Our food service department also checked each student’s account and ensured that a free or reduced account was set up, so that SNAP benefits and any other USDA benefits were received by the family.
I am looking forward to reading what other districts have done to ensure smooth transitions for families.
