Eligibility with Split Custody

Eligibility with Split Custody

So I have several students who have divorced parents with split custody where the child lives in a homeless situation with one parent but not with the other parent.

Example: Studen’s dad has custody on Saturday-Tuesday and lives in his own home. Students mom has custody Wednesday – Friday and lives in a motel.

Would the student still be qualified as homeless for McKinney Vento purpose as long as mom retains custody and is in housing transition?

    • Eligibility is about the student, therefore if a student is lacking a fixed, regular, or/and adequate nighttime residence he would qualify, including in the split custody situation. Irma Lopez-Barajas

    • My assumption would be yes, but only providing transportation assistance on mom’s custody days.

      • I would say yes also. We don’t want the child to go without on the days they are with mom.
