Cross County Transportation

Cross County Transportation

We have 2 students that have been living with 1 parent in a motel, and they just lost their only means of transportation. The motel is in another county. I’ve reached out and am waiting to hear back from our transportation, but I thought I’d ask if any of you have creative ideas for transportation when two counties are involved. Thanks!

Hi @emackie! Have you explored natural supports with the family? They may have someone who would be willing to transport the students and receive gas reimbursement from the School of Origin (SOO) and School of Residence (SOR) districts.

@emackie Is there any public transportation that could be used until you hear back from your transportation?

    • Hey @emackie, here are a few ideas/questions:
      – could your school bus meet up with the school of residence bus?
      – have your transportation department contact the school of residence transportation director.
      – are there any community programs that could help this family get their mode of transportation back up and running?

Hi @RachelMV – I’m working with both our and the other transportation department now to see what we can do! Curious – do you normally stay involved in this discussion, or turn it over to those departments to work it out? Thank you!

        • Please keep us posted on what they say @emackie. I support liaisons so this part depends on the district. If the transportation departments come up with a plan, thatโ€™s great! I would make sure the plan is communicated with the student and their family. Having a transportation agreement signed by the family and the schools will be important. Please reach out if you need a template.

Right now we are utilizing a few retired (former school) drivers to transport the two students, and splitting the cost with the other district. The family is still seeking housing in our district.
