Hey Shannon, good question. Schools can share education records, including a student’s homelessness, with other school officials within the local educational agency or school who have a “legitimate educational interest” in the information, including teachers. I think it’s best that schools chat with parents/students before sharing this sensitive, personal information if possibly. I also think some needs of the student could be discussed with school staff without necessarily sharing that they are homeless.. every student’s situation is of course unique.
