Child Care
Family that is homeless; one of them is a preschooler that attends half days. However, the preschooler also attends our school based child care, but starts that care time before lunch is served. Right now, some team members are stating that since they are not a “student” during meal time, they do not qualify for that free meal? Any help is appreciated.
Important
@aanderson thought I would inquire if this family is receiving child care assistance through your state. Low income families can apply for assistance and often, school based child care will receive payment directly from the state. This can be a great help to MV eligible families. Let me know if you would like more information.
@aanderson thanks for this question. It gets tricky at times when thinking about our youngest MV students, here is what the law states.
To provide services and activities to improve the identification of homeless children and youths (including preschool-aged homeless children) and enable such children and youths to enroll in, attend, and succeed in school, including, if appropriate, in preschool programs.

So this means that our preschool aged children have the right to the same thing as our K-12 students. This preschool student should be receiving free lunch.
