Charter School Fundraiser

Charter School Fundraiser

A way the school raises money is by creating fundraisers that benefit the school and scholars. One way is that the family can buy a Christmas sweater that the student can wear 3 times a week with jeans until early February. It’s not mandatory to participate. Would the school still have to pay for the MV student to participate in this, since it’s not mandatory and a fundraiser?

    • McKinney-Vento students must have equal access to all appropriate free public education programs, which includes extracurricular and co-curricular activities, services, and opportunities offered to other students. While the fundraiser is “non-mandatory,” wearing the sweater for a significant period (three times a week until early February) makes it a significant, visible, and continuous opportunity for school inclusion and community-building.

    • Hey Cynthia,

Great question… are most of your students participating in this fundraiser? If most are participating, if your MV students did not participate, would they feel left out? If that’s the case, I am wondering if the sweaters could be donated?
