I spend at least an hour each week during the summer months at the local shelter, providing organized activities, setting up a booth with free coloring pages and crayons, and playing basketball. This keeps me in communication with my students and families who are experiencing literal homelessness. We also offer free lunches to all families in our district over the summer months. I also ensure that families in need have the opportunity to visit our local community closet and begin preparing for back-to-school. This is a great way to provide much-needed services while also continuing to identify students.
