Prom Tickets:

I raise my own funds with my community.  I hold an Adult Prom to pay for kids’ prom needs.  The Legion gives space and the food is donated; people want to help. 25.00 a ticket then we take up donations at the event.  We raise like 3000.00.  I also keep a District Care Fund it is where all community initiatives to help raise money go.  I can spend it on any needs kids and families have like field trips and school fees, girl scouts ect.  Light bills and anything resource-identified.  It is no school-specific money.

Unfortunately, prom tickets are generally not considered an allowable expense under McKinney-Vento grant funds. However, districts are encouraged to explore other local resources to help cover the cost, such as PTA/PTO funds, student activity or student assistance funds, staff “jeans day” funds, community partners, local nonprofits, faith-based organizations, or anonymous donor/community sponsorship opportunities. Supporting access to school experiences like prom can help reduce barriers to full school participation and promote a student’s sense of belonging and connection.

I have been told in the past that the need has to be based on removing a barrier related to education and homelessness. I had asked to pay for a field trip with funds before and was told no because it was an offered experience not necessarily an expected experience related to education. I hope this helps!
