Eligibility Question
Good morning! We have a family who has moved to our district from a previous district and will be enrolling in their zoned campus. They are coming to us as MV but will not stay at their school of origin by choice. They have secured permanent housing and have provided POR. Do they still qualify as MV? Also, do they need to complete a new SRQ with our district or do we request the one from the previous district? Thank you!
Important
Hi @jennwood. Thanks for asking!
Even if they are no longer “homeless” by definition, the law allows them to finish the current school year at their School of Origin with MV services (including transportation).
Because the parents have explicitly chosen not to stay at the School of Origin and are instead enrolling in their new zoned campus with permanent housing, your district does not need to mark them as MV in your school information system. However, they technically still have rights under MV for the academic year. I would recommend keeping information on the students in your case notes/note taking system.
For the SRQ, is this something that only MV students/care givers are filling out at your district or is it required by everyone?
While you should always request the cumulative file (including the previous SRQ) from the prior district for your records, a new SRQ is necessary for several reasons: current living situation documentation and enrollment accuracy.
Let us know what questions you may have. Thanks so much!!
