Eviction notice
I have a family that has received an eviction notice. I have given her resource info. She called HART, and HART referred her back to me again. I have not encountered this situation.
I have run out of resources to give. We are a small and rural town, we do not have a shelter in town.
What does a MVL do in this situation?
Important
This is such a difficult situation. Our focus is on education and we do not have the resources to provide housing. Have you or the family connected with faith based organizations in the community? Perhaps encouraging the family to reach out to extended family would be helpful. I know this is sometimes not ideal but they may even want to reach out to their local police. The police department may be aware of other options for this family.
Erica P (@passice00) did you ever receive guidance on this? I have a family in the same situation. The sheriff is coming Wednesday and the landlord is changing the locks. No shelters within 30 miles and they don’t have a car. We aren’t allowed to use our funds for hotel stays in Alabama. Thoughts?
@passice00 – I am adding @RachelMV to this thread. She is one of our Community Managers, lives in a rural area, and has started a Forum thread for liaisons in rural areas.
@passice00 This is a super challenging situaltion. Is HART your CoC? Can they not help until the family is literally homeless? Is the eviction based on lack of payment or another reason? If it is from lack of payment are there any resources available to get the family in good standing? Would HART be willing to work with a landlord for an available voucher (if there are any available)? How far is the closet shelter? Do they have any assistance they could provide? Just some ideas to maybe explore.
